Hindu temple protesters in Malaysia face 312 U.S. dollars fine
SHAH ALAM, Malaysia, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The 12 men charged for involving in a protest against the relocation of a Hindu temple here last year were fined 1,000 ringgit (312.5 U.S. dollars) each, or a month's jail in default.
Malaysia's sessions court delivered the verdict here after the men pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of illegal assembly Tuesday morning.

The protestors sparked rage among Hindus in the country as to the latter, cows were sacred and inviolable.
Initially, 12 of them were charged under the country's Sedition Act 1948 where a guilty individual can be sentenced to three years in jail, a 5,000 ringgit fine (1,562.5 U.S. dollars), or both.
Although facing a lesser charge, six of the 12 were still charged under the sedition act for inciting hatred in the multi- racial society by stepping and splitting on the cow's head.
Of the six, two pleaded guilty and were fined 3,000 ringgit ( 937.5 U.S. dollars), or three months' jail in default.
